Though I love RPGs, so whether it be Risen to The Elder Scrolls to Dragon Age I love the differences each franchise takes. Yeah Skyrim was a great game.but just doesn't have that sense of immersion or the feeling that you actually matter like the Gothic games did. Something that I haven't seen any other game capture (Skyrim fumbled terribly with the Stormcloaks/Imperials thing). Gothic IV might be very different from its predecessors but if you spend some time with it youll really like it. ArcaniA: Gothic 4 is the latest installment in the Gothic series, although it is developed by Spellbound instead and there are many changes to take into account, especially when it comes to the gameplay itself. Mostly to do with the factions and the atmosphere of it. Risen was very good and the best of the post Gothic 2 games, but for me it missed out on a couple of the things I love most about the first two. Also I played Gothic when it was new, and already understood the mechanics from falling in love with that game.
Risen just seems like it takes Gothic and makes it much easier to move and do simple tasks.where as in Gothic Picking up an item or killing an enemy meant you had to fight with the poor controls. It really wasn't all that enjoyable for me but I can see why people loved it and I respect their opinions. Arcania Gothic 4 is a laid-back RPG, which provides an inferior alternative to Dragon Age Origins, but that is about it. You won't have to worry about atmosphere, about character, about a world that's full of life. You won't have to worry about conversation trees that have any real depth. You won't have to worry about challenging combat.
You won't have to worry about being at a fire to cook, or a smithy to craft weapons. You won't have to worry about people getting mad when you steal from them or go into their houses. It's linear, you don't have to worry about different factions and their flavours. You'll see some breathtaking vistas in Arcania looking down from a high mountain across acres of woodland, with snowy peaks rising in sharp, blue-white relief in the far distance, you might make. Arcania strips away pretty much everything I love about Gothic 2, so maybe you'll actually like it. Apparently you didn't like Gothic 2 much.
